You paste a link, and instead of a list of download options you get an error. Or the download starts and never finishes. It is frustrating, but the cause is almost always one of a handful of things: the video itself cannot be downloaded, the link is not quite right, the connection dropped, or YouTube is briefly slowing down requests.
This guide explains every message you may see on Y2Mate Official, what it means and what to do about it. Many websites use the name "Y2Mate" and their messages differ, so the fixes below are written for our site, but the general advice helps with any online downloader.
First, a 30-Second Checklist
- Refresh the page and try once more. Many problems are temporary.
- Check the link. It should point to a single video, such as youtube.com/watch?v=…, youtu.be/… or youtube.com/shorts/…. Copy it again with Share › Copy link.
- Play the video on YouTube. If it does not play there, or asks you to sign in, it cannot be downloaded either.
- Check your connection. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or move closer to the router.
- Try a private window or another browser. Extensions that block scripts can stop the page from working.
Errors After You Paste a Link
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid YouTube URL | The text is not a link to a YouTube video, or part of it is missing. | Copy the link again with Share › Copy link and paste all of it, or type the video's title to search. |
| Whole playlists can't be downloaded at once… | You pasted a playlist link. | Open one video from the playlist and paste that video's link. |
| This video is private and cannot be downloaded. | Only people the owner invited can watch it. | It can only be downloaded if the owner makes it public or unlisted. |
| This video is age-restricted… | YouTube only shows it to signed-in adults. | Age-restricted videos cannot be downloaded with Y2Mate Official. |
| This is a members-only video… | Only paying channel members can watch it. | Members-only videos cannot be downloaded. |
| Live streams cannot be downloaded… | The video is being broadcast live right now. | Wait until the stream has ended. The recording usually becomes available a little later. |
| This video hasn't premiered yet… | It is a scheduled premiere. | Try again after the premiere has finished. |
| This video is unavailable… or …not available in the server's region | The video was removed, or it is blocked in some countries. | Check whether it plays on YouTube. Videos blocked in our server's region cannot be downloaded. |
| This video has been removed… | The uploader deleted it, or it was taken down after a copyright claim. | The video no longer exists. Search for another upload of it. |
| YouTube is temporarily limiting requests… | YouTube is briefly slowing down requests from our server. | Wait a few minutes and try again. This usually clears up quickly. |
| Failed to load formats. Please refresh the page. | The list of qualities could not be loaded. | Refresh the page. If it happens again, wait a minute and retry. |
| Rate limit exceeded. Please try again later. | Too many requests came from your connection in a short time. | Wait a minute or two. Pasting the same link over and over makes it last longer. |
| Server is busy… | Many people are downloading at the same moment. | Try again in a minute. |
A tip for mobile data: mobile networks often put many phones behind the same internet address. If you see a limit message even though you only tried a few times, switching to Wi-Fi usually helps.
Problems While Downloading
- "Please wait while the file is being prepared…" takes a long time. For most videos this takes a few seconds; very long videos, 4K files and busy moments can take longer. Keep the page open until the file is ready.
- "Download limit reached. Try again in…" Each connection can start only a few downloads within a few minutes. The countdown shows when you can continue.
- "Too many simultaneous downloads. Please wait for one to finish." Several downloads are already running from your connection. Let one finish before you start the next.
- "The selected quality is no longer available. Please pick another format." The page was open for a long time. Refresh it and choose the quality again.
- "Could not prepare download", "Request timed out" or "Network error". The connection dropped. Check your internet and try again.
- Nothing happens after "File ready!". Your browser may be asking for permission. Safari on iPhone and Mac asks whether to allow downloads from the site; tap Allow. On a computer, look for a blocked-download icon in the address bar.
- The download stops halfway. Usually the connection dropped or the phone went to sleep. On iPhone, keep Safari open until the download is complete. Then start the download again from the video page.
- A new tab with an advert opened. Close it and return to the Y2Mate Official tab. You never need to install anything or allow notifications to download a video.
Slow Downloads
Download speed depends on your connection, the distance to our servers and how busy they are. To speed things up:
- Choose a lower quality. A 720p file is often less than half the size of the 1080p one.
- Use Wi-Fi rather than a weak mobile signal.
- Download one file at a time. Downloads running side by side share your bandwidth.
- If you only need the sound, use the 🎵 Audio tab: audio files are about ten times smaller.
For videos that run for hours, see how to download long YouTube videos without crashes.
The File Downloaded but Will Not Play
- No sound. Every file from Y2Mate Official includes the audio track. If you hear nothing, the player may not support the audio format, so try VLC. Background: why 1080p and 4K downloads can lose their audio.
- "Unsupported format" or a black screen. 1440p and 4K files usually use the AV1 format, which older phones, TVs and video editors cannot play. Download 1080p or lower instead, or play the file in VLC.
- The file is much smaller than the size shown. The download was interrupted. Download it again.

If it continues for more than an hour, please tell us through the Contact page. Include the video link, the exact message you saw, and your device and browser; that helps us find and fix the problem quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Y2Mate say "video unavailable"?
The video has been removed or made private, or it is blocked in some regions. Check whether it plays on YouTube without signing in.
Why can't I download age-restricted or private videos?
YouTube only shows these videos to signed-in viewers it has approved. Y2Mate Official never asks for your YouTube account, so it cannot access them.
Why does it say I reached the download limit?
To keep the service free and fast for everyone, each connection can start a limited number of downloads within a few minutes. Wait for the countdown, then continue.
Does Y2Mate Official work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari, Chrome and any other modern browser, with nothing to install.
Is it OK to keep trying?
Yes, trying again does no harm, but wait a minute between attempts. Repeating the same request many times in a row can trigger the limits described above.
